Which configuration fits your family?
Makkah hotel rooms are not generous by international standards, and the phrase "family room" means different things on different booking sites. The table below is how families are actually placed inside the Clock Tower complex, and it is the version we confirm in writing before any payment.
| Your party | Usual configuration | What to check before you pay |
|---|---|---|
| 2 adults + 1 child | Triple, or twin with extra bed | Whether the extra bed is included or charged |
| 2 adults + 2 children | Quad, or connecting pair | Bed sizes and whether a sofa bed counts as a bed |
| Family of 5 | Connecting pair, or two adjacent rooms | Connecting is a request; confirm the fallback |
| Family of 6 | Two rooms, ideally adjacent | Whether both rooms are in the same tower and floor band |
| Multi-generational group | Suite plus adjacent rooms | Distance between rooms and lift access |

Send us your family and we will place it properly
Give us the number of adults and the ages of the children. We will come back with what genuinely fits, what an extra bed costs on your dates, and whether two rooms works out better than one.
Get a Family QuoteConnecting rooms: what you can and cannot rely on
Connecting rooms, two rooms joined by an internal door, are the single most requested and least guaranteed thing in Makkah hospitality. Almost every hotel treats them as a request subject to availability on the day, not a contracted room type, and the complex sells out of them long before it sells out of standard rooms.
Three things genuinely improve your odds. Book early, because the inventory is finite and allocated in order. Accept a specific hotel rather than staying open, because the request has to sit against a confirmed reservation. And have someone follow it up with the hotel before you arrive, which we do as standard rather than leaving it to the front desk on the night.
If connecting rooms are essential rather than preferred, tell us at the enquiry stage. We will steer you toward the hotels most likely to deliver, which in the Clock Tower usually means Pullman ZamZam Makkah.
What an extra bed actually costs
Extra beds in Makkah Clock Tower hotels are typically quoted in the region of SAR 200 to SAR 250 per night in regular season, checked at the time of writing, with higher charges in Ramadan. Over a ten-night stay that becomes a meaningful number, and it is the most common source of check-in surprises for families across the whole city.
We quote the extra bed as a separate visible line rather than folding it into a nightly total, and we always price the alternative alongside it. For a family of five, two rooms without extra beds frequently costs about the same as one room with two extra beds, and everybody sleeps better. You should be shown both options and allowed to choose.
Which hotel suits which family
Best for families overall: Pullman ZamZam Makkah. The widest configuration range in the complex, the most connecting-room inventory, and rates below the central towers for comparable space.
Best for families wanting the view: the Fairmont. If a Full Kaaba View room is what your family will remember, the Fairmont holds the deepest inventory. Expect to pay for it, and expect to book earlier.
Best for larger multi-generational groups: Raffles or multiple adjacent rooms. If elderly parents are travelling with you, the suite layout at Raffles Makkah Palace gives separate living space, which changes the rhythm of a long stay. Our elderly and accessibility guide covers the rest of that planning.
Best for value with a large party: Al Marwa Rayhaan. Two rooms in the complex's most accessible hotel often beats one premium room, especially on longer stays.
Practical things families get wrong in Makkah
- Booking a "family room" without asking what is in it. Ask for the bed configuration in writing: how many beds, what size, and whether an extra bed is included or charged.
- Assuming children stay free. Policies vary by hotel, season and category. Get it confirmed on the quote.
- Underestimating meal logistics. With children, half board removes a real daily problem around prayer times. See our meal plans guide.
- Leaving connecting rooms to chance. Request it at booking, not at check-in.
- Booking too late. Family inventory is the scarcest in the complex. Six to eight weeks in regular season, six to twelve months for Ramadan.
Travelling with children this Ramadan?
Family configurations sell out first and Ramadan compounds it. Tell us your dates now and we will tell you honestly what is still available.
Check Family AvailabilityFrequently Asked Questions About Family Rooms in the Clock Tower
Pullman ZamZam Makkah is the strongest choice for a family of five. It holds the widest range of triple, quad and connecting-room configurations in the Abraj Al Bait complex and prices below the Fairmont for comparable space. A family of five is usually placed in a connecting pair or two adjacent rooms.
Extra beds are typically quoted in the region of SAR 200–250 per night in regular season, checked at the time of writing, and rise in Ramadan. Charges vary by hotel and room category. We quote the extra bed as a visible line item so it is never a surprise at check-in.
Several do, including Pullman ZamZam Makkah and the Fairmont. Connecting rooms are requested rather than guaranteed at almost every Makkah hotel, and demand is high in every season. Booking early materially improves your chances, and we follow the request up with the hotel before arrival.
Yes in quad configurations, which several hotels in the complex offer, though availability is tighter than for twins. Whether four adults or two adults and two children are sharing changes what is comfortable as well as what is permitted. Tell us the exact ages and we will confirm what genuinely fits.
Policies vary by hotel, season and room category. Younger children sharing an existing bed are often accommodated without an extra charge, while an additional bed is charged. Because the rules differ across the complex, we confirm the child policy in writing on every family quote.
Family facilities in Makkah are limited compared with leisure destinations, which is expected given the purpose of the trip. Pullman ZamZam Makkah is the strongest of the complex for families with children. We will tell you honestly what is and is not available before you book.
For a family of five or six, two rooms is usually more comfortable and often similar in cost once extra bed charges are counted. For a family of four, one quad is generally better value. We quote both options side by side so you can compare rather than guess.
Earlier than couples do. Family configurations and connecting rooms are the scarcest inventory in the complex and the first to sell out. For regular season, allow six to eight weeks; for Ramadan or school holidays, six to twelve months.
