How Gulf travellers usually book
The pattern from the UAE and the wider GCC is different from long-haul markets. Trips are shorter, more frequent, and arranged closer to departure, and almost nobody wants a bundled package. What they want is the right hotel, confirmed quickly, around flights they have already booked.
| Length | Suggested split | Suits |
|---|---|---|
| 2 nights | Makkah only, weekend | The most common GCC short trip |
| 3–4 nights | Makkah only, long weekend | A calmer pace with several prayers in the Haram |
| 4–5 nights | 3 in Makkah, 1–2 in Madinah | When you want both cities on a short break |
| Repeat visits | Makkah only, several times a year | Common from Dubai, Doha and Riyadh |

We work Gulf hours from Dubai and can usually come back with live Clock Tower rates the same day, in AED or SAR, with a real photograph of the room view.
Get Same-Day RatesHotel-only is usually the right call
On a two or three night trip, a package adds structure you do not need. You already know how you are getting there, whether that is a short flight from Dubai or Doha or a drive from Riyadh. What matters is that the hotel is the right one, that the room category is what you were told, and that it is confirmed before you leave.
We quote hotel-only with no booking fees, in AED, SAR, USD or GBP. If you also want a transfer from Jeddah or a night in Madinah added, we will arrange it, but we will not bundle it in by default.
Why the Clock Tower matters most on a short trip
When you have three nights, every hour spent in traffic is an hour not spent in the Haram. Staying inside the Abraj Al Bait complex removes the transfer entirely: the walk to Masjid al-Haram is covered, air-conditioned and involves no road crossing, so you can return to the room between prayers rather than committing to long stretches in the mosque or long journeys back.
Our distance and access guide explains the route honestly, including the parts that take longer than people expect. For a weekend trip, that convenience is the entire argument for the complex.
Visa and entry for UAE residents and GCC nationals
GCC nationals and residents of the Gulf follow different routes into the Kingdom, and residency validity can affect eligibility for UAE residents. Because these rules are updated periodically, verify the current position on the official Nusuk platform at nusuk.sa and on visitsaudi.com before you travel. Meningococcal vaccination is a standard requirement for pilgrims.
Saudi visa rules no longer require a woman to travel with a mahram to obtain an Umrah visa or enter the Kingdom, though individual operators may apply their own conditions.
Choosing the hotel for a short stay
On a short trip the view category is worth more than it is on a long one, because you will be in the room during the hours you are not in the mosque and you cannot spread the cost across many nights. If a genuine Kaaba view is what you want, the Fairmont holds the deepest inventory, and our Kaaba View vs Haram View guide explains how to make sure the room you are sold actually shows it.
For value on a repeat weekend visit, the two Swissôtels sit in the mid-premium tier of the complex with the same covered access. Our complete hotels guide compares all seven.

Check Weekend AvailabilityFrequently Asked Questions for UAE and GCC Travellers
Yes, and most of our GCC clients do exactly that. Short trips from Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Doha, Kuwait and Riyadh usually involve flights or a drive the traveller arranges, with the hotel booked separately. We quote the hotel alone with no booking fees.
Two to four nights is the most common pattern from the UAE and the wider Gulf, often over a weekend or a long weekend. Because the journey is short, repeat visits through the year are more usual than a single long trip.
We can quote in AED, SAR, USD or GBP, whichever is easiest for you. Tell us your preference when you message and the quote will come back in that currency.
GCC nationals and UAE residents follow different routes. UAE residents typically apply through the Saudi eVisa or Nusuk, subject to sufficient remaining residency validity. Requirements change, so verify the current position on nusuk.sa before you travel.
Driving is possible and some GCC travellers do it, though most fly given the distance. If you are driving, tell us your expected arrival time and we will set the check-in around it, which matters when you arrive late at night.
On a two or three night trip, the location advantage is at its most valuable: no transfers, no traffic, and a covered walk to the Haram means you spend the short time you have in the mosque rather than in a car.
For short-notice GCC trips we usually come back with live rates the same day, often within a couple of hours during Gulf working hours. Availability is the constraint rather than our response time, particularly on weekends.
