In brief
A first crewed yacht charter follows six steps: an enquiry describing your dates and group; a curated proposal of yachts that fit; a contract on standard MYBA terms with costs itemised; payment of the fee and an Advance Provisioning Allowance for fuel and food; a preference sheet covering dining, activities and pace; then embarkation, where the captain reviews the route with you and the crew runs everything aboard. No sailing experience is required at any point.
The six steps, in order
- Enquiry. You tell us dates, guest count, region and the mood of the trip: lively harbours or empty bays, families or friends, still or sporty. One WhatsApp message is genuinely enough to start.
- Proposal. We come back with two or three yachts that actually fit, not a list of forty. Each with crew profile, layout, itinerary sketch and the full cost structure in writing.
- Contract. Crewed charters use standard industry terms, most commonly the MYBA agreement, naming the vessel, dates, fee, APA basis and cancellation terms. You sign knowing every number.
- Payment and APA. The fee secures the yacht; the Advance Provisioning Allowance, typically 20 to 35 percent on top, funds your fuel, food and berthing, accounted line by line with the balance returned. Our cost guide decodes every term.
- Preference sheet. Before the charter you complete a short questionnaire: dining preferences including halal provisioning, drinks served or not, activities, occasions to mark, early risers or late. The crew builds your week from it.
- Embarkation. You are welcomed aboard, the captain walks the route with you and adjusts it to weather and whim, and from that moment your only decisions are where to swim and what time to eat.

On a crewed charter the captain navigates, the chef cooks to your preference sheet, and the crew handle lines, tenders, housekeeping and service. You never sail, plan passages, shop, cook or clean. Your role is to say what you enjoy and then do it.

Where should a first charter go?
The Mediterranean remains the natural first water: infrastructure, fleet choice and forgiving conditions, with our month guide covering when. Three to six months ahead gives the best choice for a summer Mediterranean week, and longer for peak school-holiday weeks. Later booking is possible, and 2026 has seen a strong late-booking pattern, but the choice of yachts narrows.
