Umrah from the United Kingdom

Umrah Packages from the United Kingdom

For UK pilgrims, a seven to ten night Umrah with four or five nights in a Makkah Clock Tower (Abraj Al Bait) hotel and two or three in Madinah is the structure that works best around annual leave and school terms. We book the Clock Tower hotel with or without flights, with the room and view category confirmed in writing before you pay.

What a UK Umrah usually looks like

Most UK pilgrims are working around annual leave, school terms or both, which makes trip length the first decision rather than the last. The table below is the shape we book most often.

LengthSuggested splitSuits
7 nights4 in Makkah, 3 in MadinahA week of annual leave; the most common UK structure
10 nights6 in Makkah, 4 in MadinahSchool holidays and families; a more settled pace
14 nights8 in Makkah, 6 in MadinahUnhurried stays, retired travellers, extended leave
3–5 nightsMakkah onlyShort focused trips, usually repeat pilgrims

Flights from the UK

Jeddah is the usual gateway for a Makkah-first itinerary, and Madinah is the natural entry point if you would rather begin in the second city and travel south. Direct services operate from London, and connecting options through Gulf and European hubs are widely available from Manchester, Birmingham and other regional airports. Routes, carriers and frequencies change by season, so check current schedules when you fix your dates.

We do not require you to book flights with us. Many UK travellers use airline points or fly from a regional airport for convenience, and we simply build the hotel around whatever they have booked. If you have not booked yet, tell us the flights you are considering and we will tell you whether the arrival timing works well for check-in and prayers.

Visa and Nusuk for British passport holders

Nusuk is Saudi Arabia's official digital platform for Umrah. It is used to apply for the Umrah eVisa, to obtain permits for performing Umrah and for visiting the Rawdah in Madinah, and to hold approved bookings. Requirements have changed more than once in recent years, including the linking of accommodation to visa applications and seasonal suspensions around the Hajj period.

For that reason we do not publish a fixed checklist that could be out of date by the time you read it. Verify the current requirements on the official platform at nusuk.sa and on Saudi Arabia's official travel guidance at visitsaudi.com before booking non-refundable flights. The elements that have been consistent are a passport with sufficient remaining validity, a digital photograph, meningococcal vaccination, and confirmed accommodation.

On the mahram question: Saudi visa rules no longer require a woman to travel with a mahram in order to obtain an Umrah visa or enter the Kingdom. Individual operators may still apply their own conditions, and religious opinion varies, so confirm with your operator and, if it matters to you, with a scholar you trust.

Choosing the hotel from the UK

Two decisions matter more than the rest: which hotel in the complex, and which view category. Our complete Clock Tower hotels guide compares all seven properties, and the Kaaba View vs Haram View guide explains the distinction that catches out more first-time UK pilgrims than anything else: a room sold as Haram View may not show the Kaaba at all.

If the view is the reason you are booking the Clock Tower, the Fairmont Makkah holds the deepest Full Kaaba View inventory. If you are travelling as a family around a school holiday, family configurations sell out earliest and deserve the most lead time.

Timing your trip from the UK

Two calendars interact. The Islamic calendar sets Makkah demand, and the UK school calendar sets flight pricing. The best value comes when the quiet Islamic months fall outside British school holidays, and the worst when Ramadan or Rajab coincides with half term. Our cheapest months guide explains where the Islamic-calendar windows fall; tell us your flexible dates and we will check both calendars against each other for you.

If you are considering Ramadan, read the Ramadan booking guide before anything else. UK demand for the last ten nights is extremely high, and the booking horizon is six to twelve months rather than weeks.

Frequently Asked Questions for UK Pilgrims

The cost depends almost entirely on when you travel and which view category you book. Ramadan rates run several times regular-season pricing, and Full Kaaba View rooms carry a significant premium over Haram View. We do not publish fixed prices because they move weekly. Message us with your dates and we will send live rates.

Jeddah is served from major UK airports including London Heathrow, and connections through Gulf and European hubs are widely available from regional airports such as Manchester and Birmingham. Routes and carriers change by season. We will build the hotel around your chosen flights, or advise on timings if you have not booked yet.

British passport holders apply for the Umrah eVisa or an eligible Saudi tourist eVisa through Saudi Arabia's official Nusuk platform. Requirements change periodically, so verify the current process on nusuk.sa before booking non-refundable travel.

Seven to ten nights is the usual range from the UK, most often four or five nights in Makkah with two or three in Madinah. Ten nights makes better sense over a school holiday, and fourteen if you want an unhurried pace in both cities.

The weeks immediately after Hajj, and mid-Sha'ban before Ramadan demand builds, are the softest windows. Avoid UK school holidays, which push both flight and hotel pricing up independently of the Islamic calendar.

Yes, and many UK travellers do, particularly those using airline points or flying from a regional airport. We book the Clock Tower hotel alone, with no booking fees, and can add transfers or a Madinah leg if you want them.

Saudi visa rules no longer require a mahram for a woman to obtain an Umrah visa or enter the Kingdom. Some operators apply their own conditions and religious opinion varies, so check with your operator and confirm current rules on the official Nusuk platform.
